Blackview BV6000 is a 4.7 inch rugged phone with Android 6.0 Dual Sim 4G Smartphone with MTK6755 64bit Octa Core 2.0GHz, a 13.0MP Rear Camera with 3GB RAM, 32GB ROM, NFC.
The most relevant feature in this smartphone is that it has a IP68 Waterproof Corning Gorilla screen, that is also Dustproof and Shockproof, very resistant, making this phone suitable for sporty people!
BV5000 was probably too big for a rugged phone with its 5.5″, so the Blackview BV6000 is a new rugged phone offering all the waterproofing and shock protection of the original BV5000, but in a smaller and more compact 4.7-inch display.
The phone remains IP68 approved so you don’t have to worry about wetting it, or being ran over, but it also mounts a powerful Mediatek Helio P10 chipset and 3GB RAM meaning it is one of the more powerful rugged phones on the market.
Blackview BV6000 Review
We got the Blackview BV6000 smartphone from Everbuying to test and review it. We can straightaway say that it is a very solid phone with good performances, many optimized functions for a rugged phone – like the emergency button – and so this is perfect for adventurous people, for travels and trekking and in general people who enjoy outdoor activities, as it is also dustproof and waterproof. These device can endure anything and have incredible battery life. Cons are it’s weight and dimensions, and the design, nice for travels but maybe not so elegant in the city. Blackview BV6000 is a rugged phone and should be treated as one. In spite of that fact, it does look exceptionally well. There are three colors to choose from, sunshine yellow, violet black, and army green.
The target of Blackview BV6000 is the growing number of smartphone users who are looking for something more resistant than usual, in fact it can resist to shocks and can be even immersed in water.
Right under the display, we can read the ‘IP68’ logo. IP68 certification means that no dust should enter the enclosure (if the microusb and earjack seals are in place) and the phone can survive 30 minutes immersed in water up to 1m of depth. Blackview tested it in the washing machine and it still works, I wouldn’t test it in this way myself, but here’s the video for your reference:
As it is a rugged phone made to resist to shocks, it’s full of rubber and metal all round to protect the phone from bumps and shocks. It has a CNC full metal frame and a polycarbonate plus fibre glass enclosure to hold things in place, and the display’s Corning Gorilla Glass 3 should resist to scratches.
Hardware and performances
Besides, Blackview created a phone with good hardware and performances, at the top of the mid range smartphones. It features MTK6755 64bit Octa Core 2.0GHz CPU also known as Helio P10, with an ARM Mali T860 GPU, 3GB RAM and 32GB ROM, allowing multitasking with no lags and a lot of space for apps, photos and videos, 13.0MP Rear Camera, and even NFC. It is dual sim and allows to use them at the same time, and stocks Android 6.0.
We tested it with Antutu and it reached a score of 45,792, very similar to my Samsung S5 (49355), so a very good result for a mid range phone.
Blackview BV6000 runs on Google’s latest OS, Android 6.0 Marshmallow. This OS offers much better performance than the previous versions and optmization to increase the battery duration, and has a few tricks. Google Now allows you to search the internet and desired content with a single tap on the button. Doze mode prolongs the battery life significantly reducing CPU speed and putting some apps in the sleep mode while the screen is turned off. Android 6.0 Marshmallow also brings you support for latest apps and games from the Google Play store or any other Android store of your choosing.
Housing and design
On the left side of the phone there’s a camera button, a PTT (push-to-talk) button – you will need to download the appropriate app to use it – and an SOS button. Pressing on the SOS button once it brings up a list of contacts, allowing you to send an SMS with your GPS location and a default message. Pressing on it for more than five seconds allows you to lock the phone and set it in a ‘distress’ mode, sending a distress signal every 30 minutes, allowing it to conserve battery.
Pressing the camera button for five seconds when the phone is unlocked brings up the camera app.
On the right side of the device, made from metal, there are power and volume buttons.
On top of the phone there’s the 3.5mm headphone jack and an atmospheric pressure sensor located next to it, and on the bottom the microUSB port. They are both are protected with the removable plastic cover, a sort of rubber flaps that are screwed to the body. You should carefully control that the flaps are closed before using the phone in dust or near water, to avoid infiltrations that will damage the phone. In case you lose or damage the flaps, you can find 2 spare ones in the package. One of the most important features for climbers, atmosphere pressure sensor, is embedded in the phone as well. With it, you can measure the exact atmospheric pressure and determine at which height you are.
On the back of the phone there’s a removable cover with the IMEI numbers impressed on it. The cover is secured with two screws, with the screwdriver supplied with the phone you can open it to put the SIM cards in their positions.
The battery is inside the enclosure and is fixed, you can’t change it. Anyway it’s a 4200mAh battery so it can reach the end of the day with no worries and the 10W fast-charge charger will allow you to quickly recharge the phone. It is designed to last for several days of light usage in case you don’t have a power outlet to charge your phone. In our tests, the battery lasted two and a half days with moderate use and a day and a half with pretty heavy usage. Very efficient CPU, lower resolution screen, and Android 6.0 Marshmallow Doze mode help a lot in the battery optimization process.
The device features a 4.7-Inch IPS screen, with the resolution of 1280×720 pixels. Viewing angles and sunlight legibility are pretty good. Color reproduction is good too, and colors look effective. The resolution is under the standard fullHD, but this phone was created with peculiar purposes in mind. Anyway you can use it for multimedia, games and web surfing with no problems whatsoever. Also, the benefit of the smaller resolution is extended battery life, which is crucial especially if you are headed somewhere outdoors and you won’t return for a long period. The screen is protected with the Gorilla Glass 3 which adds to existing protection of the device.
Blackview BV6000 is equipped with Omni Vision’s 13-Megapixel autofocus camera sensor. It has relatively wide f/2.0 aperture for better low light shots. It take good photos, with many details and natural colors in daylight conditions. Obviously we are not talking about a top range phone, but the results are still good. With low light the quality is poor, as we expect in the middle range devices. Front camera sensor is made by Omni Vision as well, and it is of 5-Megapixel resolution.
Videos can reach the resolution of 1080p @ 30fps. The quality is decent, with good details, but suffers transitions from different lit scenes. In general the camera quality is good, but don’t expect top level smartphone’s results.
The device has 32GB of fast 5.1 eMMC storage. It is a lot of space to store apps, photos and videos but, in case that 32GB is not enough for you, you can expand it via micro SD card with additional 32GB.
Talking about connectivity, it covers the 800MHz, 1800Mhz, 2100MHz and 2600Mhz LTE bands (so it’s good for examples for italian Wind users). It has built in GPS, Glonass and Beidou navigation systems. The device has an excellent reception and offers up to 4G LTE+ network speeds, up to 300Mb/s for download and 50Mb/s upload speed. It also features NFC, that can be used to transfer files more conveniently, for credit card payment, etc.
The package of the Blackview BV6000 contains the phone, micro USB cable, 2A charger, user manual written in several languages and tools for opening the case of the device.
